On the Pope's Rabbit statement

There were mixed reactions regarding Pope Francis' advice during his visit to the Philippines, "Stop breeding like rabbits." It is the sad reality that the people are facing, since the controversial RH Bill of the country last 2012, it became a debate sensation for those who approves and those who were against it.

The Bible may have told us to multiply, but aren't we overpopulated enough? Let us remind ourselves that it was Adam and Eve who were being told to multiply, because there were only two of them of course. Now that we are now billions in numbers, isn't it time to slow things a bit and face the reality that our world isn't infinite. It cannot occupy the ever growing population of human beings after years that may come.

I agree with the Pope's statement, we are humans, far more civilized and intelligent than the animals here on Earth. Maybe we have to think in a humanly manner on how often we should multiply. I am a pro-life activist myself, Life is precious and we are lucky to have been given that gift. But it doesn't mean that Reproductive Health bill could be the answer, it must also come from ourselves.

Family planning is important, some people may say that wasting sperm is a sin. But here is a verse in the Bible that I would like you to read:

Then Judah said to Onan, "Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother." But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother. What he did was wicked in the LORD's sight; so he put him to death also. (NIV, Genesis 38:8-10)

Birth control was the sin Onan committed because he was ordered by God to produce offspring for his brother. This is a case where his brother doesn't have children of his own. But if parents in today's generation already had an abundant amount of children, would birth control still be a sin?

Now this would be a challenge to our human population. It is also stated in the Bible that a man should please his wife and so shall the wife for her husband. But does it really mean that every time married couples please each other, a children should result afterwards? Or do couples have the privilege to choose how much children they want and please each other as many as the number of their children?

Maybe its time to be practical. The poor and the oppressed are the people that Jesus wants us to help, but overpopulation just made more people suffer, if we care for the poor, we should take action. Let us multiply, but there are limits to it!
