Back with the old ways?

filipinos during papal visit

After Pope Francis' visit to the Philippines, many people wonder, will the Filipinos back with their old ways?

The People

This is a challenge to the Filipinos, people have shown discipline during the Papal visit, government officials have given way to rest in their political duties and participate with the coming of the Leader of the Catholic Church. It became an instant miracle according to some people, but the Pope didn't just come to visit and preach for the people, but also to tell them about facing the problems of the country like corruption and poverty.

Now that the Pope went back to Rome, problems are facing the Filipino people once again. The once disciplined act when the Pope came into the country has now been covered with thousands or rather millions of garbage into the street. People reacted both in a positive and a negative way. Others have said that as usual, Filipino people still lack the discipline, while others said that there is riches in all the garbage left that many people might use.

In my opinion, it is not about getting something from the garbage but it still reflects who we are as people. We are too focus in disciplining ourselves from stampedes, but we forgot that disposing our own garbage in a civilized manner is also part of our discipline as people.

The Government

Most Filipinos said that corrupt government officials are now back with the old ways. I think only the Pope could silence them up for days, but after this, I don't think another major miracle will happen. I don't think that the corrupt and useless government officials will become saints after the Pope's visit.

People should reflect that progress in our country comes from our own hands. If we depend too much on the government and only listens to the Pope but not taking it into action, will it help our country? There are millions and probably a billion of our population existing today and why do we depend on a single man sitting on MalacaƱang palace? They may have the authority, but the government exist for a reason that our will shall be served.

Change is in our hands, if the arrival of the Pope really means to us Filipinos, we should not just listen and also take the words into action.
